Know your Patrons

On average, squirrel consumes about 1 pound of food per week. Squirrels are actually omnivores, which also means, it is important to ensure a well-mixed of variety to meet their nutritional needs. Without human intervention, squirrels enjoy common nuts, seeds, tree flowers and tree buds from an assortment of trees. Squirrels are generally most active from 6-10am, while feeding in other times of the day are also fine.

In this article, we will share some useful tips about food preparation as you begin setting up the SQUIFTY Feeder Table for your first nutty customer!

For starters, roasted peanuts and corn on the cob are favorite snacks for the squirrels. We will not recommend them as the main course simply because they provide less nutritional value - much like the potato chips we eat while chilling on the couch. Remember not to serve raw peanuts as they may contain fungus on the shells and cause food poisoning.

Peanut butter, white pistachio, pumpkins, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds are great and popular appetizer choice! It will serve as great hits for the squirrels, but should only be provided in moderation.

The greatest highlight of the course would be the assortment of nuts, fruits and vegetables! Nuts such as walnut, pecans, hickory nuts, hazelnuts, butternut, and beechnut are the best in class, often with shells to promote their gnawing habits.

Vegetables such as greens, broccoli, carrots, squash, zucchini are excellent source of nutrition, promoting healthy diet and a healthy living.

As for fruits, apples, oranges, avocados, grapes, strawberries, watermelon are excellence choice of sides, although typically squirrels prefer citrus over non-cirtus fruits.

We reserve the finest organic selections for the last - acorn (white oak), tree twigs and bark are the natural source of food for the squirrels. Do remember to provide plenty of water for squirrels to hydrate themselves before moving off to their next adventure in the wild!

Final note

The above 4-course menu is a fun illustration of multi-varied food options for the squirrels; you do not have to serve them religiously in sequence! Test and learn various type of food and see how they respond to it. Offer 'junk' food in moderation, and close your restaurant every alternate days, just so that they remain independent and vigilant in sourcing for their own food.

Now, kick back, relax with a cup of morning coffee, and have loads of fun squirrel watching! πŸ”πŸΏοΈ
